This is a woman’s printable ring size guide but can be used for men too, so whether you’re looking for your own or your partner’s ring size , it’s all the same.

Before we dive in it has to be said that the best way to get an accurate measurement, or perfect ring size, is to go into a jewelry store. You will be able to try on a variety of options until you find perfect fit.

It will also give you a better understanding of the style you would like. Are wider bands your thing or would you prefer a slimmer one? Oval or pear diamonds or no? Halo or hidden halo, or no halo at all?

If you are measuring for an engagement ring or a wedding band you will be measuring the ring finger on the left hand. However, these methods can be used for any finger.

How to Measure your Ring Size?

Measure Your Finger

If you have ribbon, a piece of string, a strip of paper, or even dental floss at home, it’s easy enough to figure out the right size ring of your ring finger.

The time of day you do this is important, especially if this is a ring you are going to wear for the rest of your life. Your hands and fingers swell throughout the day so morning time is deemed best. Or try it out at multiple points throughout the day.

See below for the instructions:

  • Use a thin piece of paper, or piece of string and wrap it around the base of your finger. It should be a comfortable fit and not pressed too tight against the skin.

  • Put a pen mark at the point where the paper ends meet (the end of the strip of paper will overlap) – this will give you the circumference.

  • Compare the distance between your pen mark and the start of the paper against a ruler or measuring tape to see this distance in millimeters. This is the actual measurement of your finger.

  • Check this length against the ring size conversion chart below to find the correct ring size in the country or jewelers you are in.

  • If this is the first time you’re doing this, maybe try it a few times and average the results.

  • Voila, the right size for your new ring.

Measure a Different Ring

If you have an existing ring, in the correct size (ie it’s a comfortable fit when worn), you can use the printable ring size chart below.

  • Download and print the below ring size guide. To obtain an accurate ring size measurement the page scaling, or print size, must be set to 100% before printing. Ensure you un-click any “scale to fit” boxes.

  • Place a ring that fits the finger you would like to size onto the ring chart, and match to the fit on the page. The printable ring size chart has US ring sizes, UK, EU, and standard ring sizes, so it should be easy to find.

If your ring doesn’t fit any of those on the charts, you may be in-between sizes. Don’t panic the perfect fit is still possible.

Jewelry designers and stores will have rings that are a half size larger or smaller than the closest match on the ring sizing chart. Some places will even have quarter sizes.

FAQs

How Should a Ring Fit?

Snug is the word we’re looking for, for the perfect fit. Your engagement ring should be easier to put on than it is to take off.

The ring should slide easily over the knuckle and sit in place at the base of your finger. When you shake your hand it shouldn’t move more than a milimeter or two.

If the skin around the ring bulges it’s probably a bit too tight. Similarly, it shouldn’t leave any indentations in the skin.

Your engagement ring should not feel loose. Nor should its stones fall to either side easily.

To test it – push your ring up from the underneath and see if there is a small space between your ring and your finger. This generally means it’s a good size. Too much space – too big. No space – too small.
