This is a men’s printable ring size guide but men’s wedding rings are measured the same as women’s, so whether you’re looking for your own or your partner’s ring size, it’s all the same. Men’s fingers just tend to be a bit larger.
If you are measuring for a wedding band you will be measuring the left ring finger but all fingers are measured the same way so it can be used for any finger size.
Things to be aware of when measuring men’s ring size
Average Size
The average men’s ring size is between 8 and 14. If your measurements are coming out drastically on either side and you consider yourself to have “normal” hands, the best option would be to confirm with a local jewelry store.
Band Width
The width of the band can make a ring seem looser or tighter so this will need to be factored into your purchase.
Metal Material
Most men’s rings can be resized. However, it’s more common for a man to choose a material that can’t be resized. If in doubt, speak to your local jeweler.
How to Measure Your Ring Size?
MEASURE YOUR FINGER
If you have a thin measuring tape, a piece of string, a paper strip, or even dental floss at home, it’s easy to find your perfect ring size.
The time of day you do this is important, especially if this is a ring you are going to wear for the rest of your life. Your hands and fingers swell a little bit throughout the day, or in hot and cold weather, so morning time is a good general rule of thumb. Or try it out at multiple points throughout the day.
See below for the instructions:
- Use a thin piece of paper, or piece of string, if you’re using the string method, and wrap it around the base of your finger. It should be a comfortable fit and not pressed too tight against the skin. The right place is where you feel comfortable having a ring sit, and this is personal preference.
- Put a pen mark at the point where the paper ends meet (the end of the strip of paper will overlap) – this will give you the circumference.
- Compare the distance between your pen mark and the start of the paper against a ruler or a tape measure to see this distance in millimeters. This is the circumference of your finger.
- Check this length against the ring size conversion chart below to find the correct ring size in the country or jewelers you are in.
- If this is the first time you’re doing this, maybe try it a few times and average the results for the most accurate measurement.
- Voila, the right size for your new ring.
MEASURE A DIFFERENT RING
If you have an existing ring, in the correct size (ie it’s a comfortable fit when worn), you can use the printable ring size chart below.
- Download and print the below ring size guide. To obtain an accurate ring size measurement the page scaling, or print size, must be set to 100% before printing. Ensure you un-click any “scale to fit” boxes.
- Place a ring that fits the finger you would like to size onto the ring chart and match it to the fit on the page. The printable ring size chart has US ring sizes, UK, EU, and standard ring sizes, so it should be easy to find.
If all else fails and your ring doesn’t fit any of those on the charts, you may be in-between sizes. Don’t panic the perfect fit is still possible.
Jewelry designers and stores will have rings that are a half size larger or smaller than the closest match on the ring sizing chart. Some places will even have quarter sizes.

FAQs
HOW SHOULD A RING FIT?
We’re looking for a snug fit. Your ring should be easier to put on than it is to take off.
The ring should slide easily over the knuckle, with little resistance, and sit in place at the base of your finger. When you shake your hand it shouldn’t move more than a millimeter or two.
If the skin around the ring bulges it’s probably a bit too tight. Similarly, it shouldn’t leave any indentations in the skin.
To test it – push your ring up from underneath and see if there is a small space between your ring and your finger. This generally means it’s a proper fit. Too much space – too big. No space – too small.

HOW DO YOU FIND OUT THEIR RING SIZE WITHOUT THEM KNOWING?
- “Steal” A Ring They Already Wear
- Ask a Close Friend or Family Member
- Buy a Different Ring as a Test
- Measure it in their Sleep
- Buy a Physical Ring Sizer

I BOUGHT THE WRONG SIZE, HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO RESIZE IT?
If you’ve bought the incorrect size, the best option is to find your correct size and exchange the ring. Should that not be an option, it’s a super simple process to resize a ring in most cases.
Obviously it will depend on a few different factors – metal, intricacy, engravings, etc. But in general, anywhere from a few hours to a few weeks.
Read this if you’re wondering about the factors that will affect how long it will take to resize a ring.
